VSO

initiatives

Commitment to the partnership is Group-wide, and many of our operating companies have taken the initiative to host events and start activities that have helped raise awareness and funds for VSO. Here are some examples of the initiatives from Randstad employees:

In 2010 VSO started to re-engineer its business process, or as VSO calls it ‘the Volunteer Journey’, essential to recruiting and placing volunteers overseas. Randstad helps VSO International to map its processes against theirs to work out the levels of efficiency within each step of the system. The overhauling of VSO’s recruitment & placement system will allow VSO to place more volunteers in a shorter timeframe and at a lower cost.

In February Randstad Staffing UK organizes the annual Big Swim. In six pools across the country, Randstad staff, friends and family gathered to raise funds for VSO by swimming as far as they could in 1 hour.

Randstad Spain and Randstad CPE (UK) host a fundraiser where photos from current volunteer Adrián Sanchez are auctioned off. Adrián works as an HR & leadership trainer in northern Namibia and is a photographer in his spare time. Namibia has been plagued by heavy flooding since January 2011, all proceeds will go to victims of the floods.

VSO Tanzania and Randstad volunteer Frouke Maas combined the best of development aid practices and business concepts to co-develop a business tool called BCCD (Basic Concept for Capacity Development). The tool allows VSO’s local partners, often NGOs, to assess their organization and help determine what the focus of the organization should be.

Randstad Search & Selection in the Netherlands hosted a long-term fundraiser whereby they donated EUR 20 of every placed candidate to VSO. The goal was to raise enough money to help build additional classrooms and bathrooms to a primary school in Shyogwe, Rwanda.

Randstad HR Solutions and VSO have developed HR solutions for developing countries. We support NGOs with their HR questions and put HR systems in place. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the NGOs. Randstad volunteers are working on a consultancy basis to support VSO and its partners to build organizational capacity by improving systems and structures to ensure that basic employment conditions are in place and adhered to.
VSO - use your imagination and there's no limit to what we can do together
