We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as the Lead Regulatory Compliance (Assistant Vice President) for our leading mortgage company in Malaysia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory compliance, preferably with exposure to Islamic banking or Shariah-compliant financial products. This role is crucial in ensuring that our operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines, thereby maintaining the company's reputation and integrity in the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance Oversight: Develop, implement, and oversee the company's regulatory compliance framework, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Policy and Procedure Development: Lead the development, review, and enhancement of compliance policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate regulatory risks and align with business objectives.
Islamic Banking Compliance: Provide expertise and guidance on regulatory requirements specific to Islamic banking or Shariah-compliant financial products, ensuring compliance with Shariah principles and industry standards.
Risk Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct regular risk assessments and compliance reviews to identify areas of non-compliance or potential regulatory risks, and implement appropriate remedial actions.
Regulatory Reporting: Coordinate and oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and filings to relevant authorities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver compliance training programs to employees at all levels of the organization, promoting a strong compliance culture and awareness of regulatory obligations.
Internal Investigations: Lead or support internal investigations into compliance breaches or allegations of misconduct, collaborating with relevant departments and stakeholders to address issues and implement corrective actions.
External Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and industry bodies, representing the company's interests and ensuring proactive engagement and communication on regulatory matters.
Change Management: Stay abreast of changes in regulatory requirements, industry trends, and best practices, and drive the implementation of necessary changes to ensure ongoing compliance and risk management effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications in compliance, such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager), would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in regulatory compliance roles within the financial services industry, with exposure to mortgage lending and/or Islamic banking preferred.
- Strong understanding of Malaysian financial regulations, including those relevant to mortgage companies, Islamic banking, and Shariah compliance.
- Excellent knowledge of compliance best practices, risk management principles, and internal control frameworks.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a compliance team and drive initiatives across multiple functions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex regulatory issues, identify solutions, and make sound recommendations to senior management.
