Position: Teacher Development Mentor

 

Required: April 2014

 

Location: Malaysia (Borneo)

 

Experience: You should have a minimum of an internationally recognised TEFL qualification (Cambridge CELTA/Trinity certTESOL) and 2 years of relevant experience of which 500+ hours must be gained from teaching young learners.

 

Sponsorship: Single teachers without dependents.

 

Salary: Generous salary package (accommodation allowance included) ranging from MYR 8660 – 10650 depending on qualifications and experience

 

Contract: Contract ends September 2015

 

School Vision / Ethos: Our client has two exciting projects that offer a unique opportunity to utilise teacher training and mentoring skill sets while making a real difference to thousands of school teachers and millions of children.

 

The Malaysian government has set ambitious targets to develop the pedagogical skills and English language capacity of their teachers in order to improve the teaching and learning of English and has asked our client to use its significant experience in this sector to help meet these targets. The projects have been running since 2011 and thanks to their outstanding success, they are delighted to have the opportunity to extend their duration in to 2014 and beyond.

 

For experienced Primary sector and ESL teachers with significant Young Learner teaching and mentoring experience looking to develop their experience of mentoring skills, this is an opportunity to work on a unique English Language Teacher Development Project (ELTDP) on the island of Borneo in East Malaysia which aims to provide Malaysian primary teachers with professional support in order to improve the teaching of English in Malaysia.  

Requirements: Our client is looking for Teacher Development Mentors to join a team of 120 teacher development mentors  each providing on-the-job mentoring support to primary teachers working in a cluster of state primary schools in Malaysian Borneo.

 

You will need to be independent, flexible, resilient and self-motivated. Many postings will be in remote, rural locations and while an extensive professional and pastoral support network is provided, applicants should be comfortable with often being the sole trainer or mentor in the communities they work in.

 

You should have a minimum of an internationally recognised TEFL qualification (Cambridge CELTA/Trinity certTESOL) and 2 years of relevant experience of which 500+ hours must be gained from teaching young learners. In addition you must be a highly proficient speaker of English with an undergraduate university degree. Experience of teacher training/development, line management or coaching/mentoring is desirable. Experience and knowledge of state primary education systems is also desirable.

 

Due to visa restrictions, candidates must be between the ages of 27 and 63 years of age. 

 

Package: Generous salary package (accommodation allowance included) ranging from MYR 8660 – 10650 depending on qualifications and experience plus completion bonus; Flights at beginning and end of contract for you and any dependent family members; Baggage allowance; Generous annual leave allowance (approx 35 days per annum); Settling in allowance; Car or travel allowance provided depending upon post and location; Medical Insurance for you and accompanying family members(currently administered by BUPA). Option of joining Pension fund
