Clipper to recreate Darwin's voyage

15 June 2009
Clipper to recreate Darwin's voyageA ten-month journey to recreate Charles Darwin's legendary voyage to the Galapagos Islands will be undertaken later this year by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam.

The sailing passenger ship, which is partly owned by Randstad, will depart from Plymouth in the UK this August before visiting many of the same ports that made up the botanist's five-year original expedition onboard the Beagle.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the Clipper will be crossing the Atlantic to reach South America, where visits with Randstad employees are planned in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile.

It is also 150 years since Darwin's On the Origin of Species was first published and the Clipper will voyage to the Galapagos before charting a Pacific course in tribute.

Taking part in a documentary that will be broadcast on Dutch television, the Clipper will arrive back in Amsterdam in August 2010 in time for Sail Amsterdam.ADNFCR-2498-ID-19218614-ADNFCR
