A series of talent gaps exist within various sectors of the European economy, it has been claimed.

This is according to the Associated Press, which suggested shortages are being experienced in fields such as engineering jobs, education and sheep shearing.

An article by the news source suggested that demand for talents differs between European nations, with judo teachers in demand in Spain, while the Netherlands has a gap in the number of goldsmiths required.

Some countries are relaxing immigration laws in relation to specific skills in order to attract workers to fill vacancies and meet labor needs.

Chatham House analyst Vanessa Rossi told the news source that Europe needs to dedicate more resources to training young people in areas where there are shortages of candidates for jobs, such as healthcare and specialist engineering.

"We've tended to be perennially bad at planning for the future," Ms Rossi declared.

Latest European Union (EU) labor figures showed that unemployment rates held steady during July this year, as the region recovers from the downturn.
