HP announces IT jobs boost in Ireland
Leixlip could become a hub for Europeans seeking IT jobs in Ireland, following the announcement of a new investment by Hewlett Packard.

The IT hardware manufacturer is creating 300 posts for bilingual workers at its Irish campus.

In total, 500 jobs will be created as part of the 18 million euro expansion, with the potential for even more.

The positions will be in areas including technical support, training and research and development.

Hewlett Packard already employs more than 4,000 workers in Ireland, making it one of the largest multinational firms with a presence in the nation.

During the first quarter of 2009, the company, which is based in Palo Alto in California, reported a growth in net revenue of one per cent compared to the same period last year.

However, its GAAP operating profit fell by five per cent to £2.5 billion.
