IT employment 'stays afloat during recession'
IT jobs in the US are defying the current recession, with employment in the sector remaining relatively strong, it has been claimed.

According to David Foote, chief executive officer and chief research officer of IT consultancy Foote Partners, recent figures from the bureau of labor statistics indicate that hiring activity in the sector is comparatively healthy.

"IT professionals are faring better than most in the economic downturn," he commented. "It's important to acknowledge that choosing IT as a profession or a career has indeed been a very smart move for millions of workers out there."

Mr Foote drew upon the bureau's statistics and pointed out that over 11,000 managerial and technical consulting jobs were added in the sector last month, reported InformationWeek.

Meanwhile, those looking for IT jobs in the UK also received good news this week, as a survey conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation found that hiring confidence in the sector remains strong.
