The number of people in work in the Philippines in 2011 rose when compared to the year earlier, despite the fact that fewer people in the country were reporting that they were happy with their job.
The National Statistics Office reported that the number of people finding work through the year had gone up, with the unemployment rate falling from 7.3 per cent to a flat seven per cent at the end of2011.
In total, there were 2.8 million people in the country without jobs in 2011. This was significantly less than the 2.9 million a year earlier.
At the same time, the report said that 19.3 per cent were looking for more hours or a second job in the year. This was one per cent higher than the previous year.
In November, the Philippines announced that it was looking to boost healthcare employment by offering placements to around 11,500 nurses to help them find work.
