Energy company Centrica has announced that it is to create a further 1,500 positions, some of which will be engineering jobs, in the UK.
The firm, which owns British Gas and Scottish Gas, announced that new jobs will become available for engineers, energy advisors and wind farm employees.
A new academy in Hamilton, due to open next month, will also serve to train around 100 apprentices annually.
The company announced that its revenue surged by 31 percent in the year to December 2008 - bringing its annual turnover to £21.3 billion ($30.2 billion).
It plans to expand its operations in the future by buying a 70 percent share in the North Sea's Baird gas field and a 25 percent stake in power firm EDF.
Centrica also encompasses the Dyno, Oxxio and Direct Energy brands in the UK.
