One of the world's leading computer games developers has launched a new scheme designed to help veterans find employment.
Just last month, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the current unemployment rate for people who have served in the military stands at 11.6 per cent, with this demographic finding it significantly harder to find work than ordinary civilians.
As a result, Activision Blizard, which is behind the popular Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk gaming titles, has announced the establishment of a special foundation aimed at giving veterans the skills and support they need to get back into employment, both in IT jobs and in other sectors.
An initial $1 million has been earmarked for the initiative, with a focus to be placed on identifying veterans who are interested in getting into IT or the gaming industry.
"These are super-capable people," Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick told the Washington Post.
"To the extent that you can put them on track to develop more skills, the development potential that we've identified is extraordinary."
The most recent date released by the US Department of Labor put the national unemployment rate at 10.2 per cent.
