Teachers working in Nigeria are set to receive a pay rise in January of next year, it has been announced.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Abdullahi Dabo said the board said the wage rise would equate to 27 per cent.
The measure has been implemented in order to improve the morale of teachers as well as promote a greater sense of responsibility and dedication, allafrica.com relayed.
Mr Dabo commented: "The notion teachers' rewards are in the heavens is no longer tenable. The teachers must begin to enjoy their rewards right here on this earth."
If teachers increase their commitment to the role, the government will, in return, continue to review the benefits available to them, he furthered.
In related news, a global survey conducted by the Wage Indicator Foundation discovered that workers in South Africa are among the most likely to be tired and bored with their roles.
