Sky is expected to extend its operation in the UK, as it moves to Ireland, as well as expanding its size in the UK.

It has announced that it plans to create 1,300 new jobs, with the majority of these coming in the form of call center positions.

The main body of the new employment opportunities will be created at its new call center which is set to be opened in Dublin.

These new jobs are coming on the back of Sky having posted some of its best profit margins for the final six months of 2011. It reported that profits were up by six per cent in the second half of the year as it posted a growth in operating profit of 16 per cent.

New job creation by global companies in the UK is becoming more prevalent, after Samsung recently announced that it would be creating 500 jobs through wind technology production in Fife.

Sky's chief executive Jeremy Darroch said: "We're improving efficiency behind the scenes so we can expand margins at the same time."
