Slovenia announces migrant controls
The Slovenian government has implemented migrant worker restrictions in an effort to reduce unemployment among domestic employees.

The central European country's Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs has created a decree on the restrictions and prohibition of work of aliens, which limits the number of foreign workers entering the country to 24,000 individuals, ISRIA reported.

Last month, the number of unemployed nationals rose to more than 84,000, which is an increase of 25,000 on the figures witnessed in September 2008.

In addition, Slovenia's government has announced its intention to take part in the creation of the Facility for Antiprotons and Ions Research, which is a major European infrastructure project worth in excess of 1.2 billion euros.

To feature in this initiative, Slovenia would have to invest 12 million euros over the course of seven years, which would create 16 companies offering employment opportunities to the local labor force.

Last week, the state's labor minister Ivan Svetlik suggested that the country was among the least affected EU members in terms of unemployment.ADNFCR-1275-ID-19218607-ADNFCR
