US tech employment weathers economic storm
The US technology industry has weathered the global economic storm better than most other sectors, according to an independent body.

TechAmerica Foundation has conducted a report based on government statistics revealing that the technology industry has witnessed a slower employment decline since the beginning of June 2008 than the private sector.

Specifically, the study discovered that the IT workforce fell by 3.7 per cent from this period to June 2009, which is 1.4 per cent less than the rate at which the private sector shed employment.

Christopher Hansen, president of TechAmerica, explained that technology is an important driver for investment and growth.

He said: "The tech industry has suffered the full force of the global economic recession in the first half of this year, yet we believe it has weathered the storm better than most."

Last month, Dennis Lockhart, Atlanta Federal Reserve president, suggested that some sections of the US labor market have been altered beyond repair by the recession.ADNFCR-1275-ID-19379009-ADNFCR
