Job Title: Government Affairs Director, China Report To: Global Government Affairs Executive VP Work Location: Shanghai, China Objective of the role: To defend the interests of the Group and coordinate the advocacy actions towards the country stakeholders, to alert the local management about the major stakes that interest them, and to raise the Group’s awareness of the political context or challenges within the country in order to foster the best possible business environment for the group and be recognized as a responsible actor in business-public authorities / stakeholders dialogues. Key Responsibilities: 1 Identify key GPA topics ? Maintain updated and in-depth knowledge of the (relevant) governmental institutions within own perimeter, their functioning and legislative processes. ? Perform country regulatory watch, collection of areas of concern for country politicians concerns and other relevant governmental information. ? Evaluate the impact of relevant new and developing legislation within own domain or perimeter, with the support of GPA colleagues and own internal network of experts 2 Define a country GPA action plan ? Contribute to the development of the annual GPA activity plan, including the identification of advocacy targets for the assigned themes. ? Define a country GPA action plan, in coherence with the Corporate GPA activity plan. ? Follow up the GPA activity plan and country GPA action plan and, when needed, adapt action plans or introduce new themes. 3 Build and maintain GPA networks ? Build and maintain relations with country politicians and with the European politicians from the own country (political network). ? Identify and develop contacts with relevant staff (cfr. Activity plan) within country governmental bodies. ? Organize, on demand of the GPA management, the Corporate Center or the business, meetings between this governmental representatives or politicians and group representatives (experts, management). 4 Develop positions for selected topics ? Define together with the Country Manager, a country advocacy strategy for each of the relevant positions, in alignment with the GPA strategy. ? Make available for relevant employees the position papers and strategy adopted. 5 Defend and industry positions for selected topics ? Have direct contacts with politicians or their administration to learn about their vision and position and to present and defend the position of and/or the professional association. ? Exchange positions and position papers with colleagues from other countries. ? Coordinate advocacy actions in the country. 6 Follow up and influence the development of regulations ? Follow up and influence the implementation of relevant EU legislation into country laws. ? Organize meetings with governmental technical experts to discuss legislative issues and innovation. ? Provide information and advice to the government, at request. 7 Provide GPA support in the organization ? Provide support and assistance for GPA matters to the business management within own perimeter or perimeter. ? Coordinate the possible actions to take by the country management regarding GPA themes. 8 Manage the activity ? Manage GPA support processes in own country. ? Coordinate a GPA network in the country. Requirements ? University degree with major in Chemical or Medical related as a plus ? At least 15 years of relevance experience ? Fluent in written and spoken Mandarin; fluent in written and spoken English.
