Secondary Economics Teacher

Required: August 2019
Location: Chengdu, China
Region: Far East and South East Asia
Curriculum: UK curriculum IGCSE & A levels
Experience: 2 years + post qualification required
Salary: Monthly RMB 19,000 - 30,000 plus excellent benefits package
Sponsorship: Single teachers, teaching couples with up to 2 dependents.
Contract: Three Years Renewable

School Overview: The school in Chengdu is a High School and a Boarding School, founded in August 2011, specialising in IGCSE and A Level courses to highly motivated students ages between 14 and 19 years, mostly from China (though it is open to both Chinese and foreign students). It is still a very embryonic school. The school is the result of a successful partnership with the local authority. Although still very small, the school is developing well. The schools in this group are blazing an educational trail for the new China. All staff are therefore pioneers. You will also be working alongside Chinese colleagues and administrators, so collaboration and cultural sensitivity are prerequisites. It should also be noted that many of the students are EAL students so this requires the relevant awareness and skills from teachers. All Secondary teachers are expected to be Tutors, working within the life-skills and tutorial/mentoring programme, and delivering at least one ECA (extra-curricular activity) per week. As with all boarding schools, there are lessons on a Saturday morning which may involve some teachers. Expat weekends take place once a month as from the Friday lunchtime. All students leave the school, allowing the residential staff to have an extended free weekend. You may apply to be one of the resident house staff, joining the boarding community.

Location Overview: Although one of China's less explored cities - Chengdu is a key economic hub in South West China with a population of 14 million including 14,000 ex-pats working for a variety of companies, including Intel, Toyota, Microsoft and various international schools. Chengdu has a high standard of living but lower living costs and this has given the city the reputation of easy to move to and hard to leave. It is a popular tourist destination; famous as home to the Pandas, Sichuan food, mountains, temples and Giant Buddha's.

Requirements:
- As part of a small and growing team of teachers you may well be responsible for the IGCSE and A Level courses at the school.
- Following the Edexcel syllabuses you will be responsible for the provision of Schemes of Work, Programmes of Study, assessments, etc in your subject area(s). - Teachers must have at least 2 years post qualification experience.
- At this school, they attract and retain a teaching team which is committed, loyal and collaborative, where professionalism counts.
- They spend much time and effort helping new teachers settle in and providing a professional induction package.
