ASSISTANT STATE INSPECTOR

Health & Return to Work (RTW), Return to Work, SafeWork NSW

SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. We focus on harm prevention and improving the work health and safety culture in NSW workplaces. Apply your industry experience and qualifications to work in partnership with NSW workplaces to assist them in creating and maintaining work health and safety standards so that workers return home safely each day.

As Assistant State Inspector working in the specialist field of return to work (RTW), you will utilise your research skills to identify, plan and deliver strategies as they relate to work health and safety and recovery at work. You will work with NSW employers to assist them with advice relating to the provision of suitable employment and enabling workers to recover at work following a work-related injury or illness. You will provide advice regarding the benefits to the business, the worker and the community of workers recovering at work, advising employers of their obligations regarding providing suitable employment and assist to negotiate outcomes to enable an employer to fulfil these obligations. You will work closely with the SafeWork NSW inspectorate to build their capability to undertake this important role.

You will work with industry, community and government agencies in the areas of recovery at work, and injury management to reduce the impact of workplace injury and illness on businesses and workers.

You will also assist in the conduct of investigations into causes of workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation. You will also play a pivotal role in working with and building the capability of internal and external stakeholders and customers.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a minimum of ten units of competency from the Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection), and/or equivalent relevant qualification or above in a related field such as health science, applied science, occupational rehabilitation, workers compensation, injury management or work health and safety and/or 3 years + industry experience.
  • Have superior knowledge and experience to provide expert information and advice, education and compliance services in return to work, injury management, occupational rehabilitation or workers compensation case management
  • Have strong communication skills to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders in relation to workplace health and safety

Location: Field based position. However, base office locations are Gosford, Baulkham Hills or Liverpool (negotiable with successful candidate)
