This is an exciting opportunity to take organisational, financial and company secretariat stewardship to the next level as a strategic leader; partnering with the board, executives and senior leaders.

About PMSA

The PMSA – Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association – owns four of Queensland’s well-known independent schools with students from Prep to Year 12: Brisbane Boys' College, Clayfield College, Somerville House and Sunshine Coast Grammar School. At each school, students are encouraged and supported to achieve their best academically, spiritually and in co-curricular activities. Each year, students and alumni excel on the world stage in academic, music, sport and spiritual pursuits.

Established in 1918, the PMSA is a joint mission of the Uniting Church of Australia, Queensland Synod and the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. One hundred years on, the PMSA plays a vital role in setting the direction of these outstanding schools and is the connecting link between the schools and the two churches.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO and as the inaugural CFO, this exciting and challenging role will have a significant focus on influencing and shaping multi-functional business and investment strategies across the PMSA group whilst working collaboratively alongside each of the schools’ Business Managers in the development of group-wide initiatives.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversee the technical administration of the Group’s accounts in accordance with relevant accounting standards and policies set by the Board
  • Support the CEO, Executive and the Board in the sound financial stewardship of the organisation.
  • Oversee the robust financial analysis and review of strategic and operational initiatives to ensure sound decision making and allocation of financial resources consistent with strategic plan.
  • Continuously scan the environment to identify opportunities for growth, development and innovation and work with the CEO, the Executive, Principals and Business Managers.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture to identify opportunities.
  • Manage key strategic relationships with Banking, Legal and Audit partners.
  • Provide advice to the Board and its Committees on governance matters.

About you

You will be a seasoned professional with proven experience in a CFO role or similar as well as Company Secretarial duties. A background in Not for Profit organisations and/or the education industry would be a distinct advantage.

You will be degree qualified in business/commerce/finance with a CPA/CA qualification and be able to demonstrate a proven, successful financial background showcasing change & transformation, with multi-disciplined commercial skills to develop integrated strategies across an organisation.

You will be an authentic, collaborative and relatable person who values building strong, productive working relationships and effectively influence executive level stakeholders and peers alike, leads by example and proactively promotes a respectful and positive workplace culture based upon Christian principles of love, justice, compassion and forgiveness.
