The business operates in the Australian Green life sector. The core business is in the production and distribution of bedding plants including flower, vegetable and foliage.

The Role

The Demand Planning position is responsible for all forecasting activities associated with customers and products. The Demand Planner creates and maintains forecast models for customers, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from sales, marketing, finance, retailer sales out data, and other sources.

The Demand Planner is the integration point into the sales and commercial organisation. Basic forecast modelling is the responsibility of this position. This position leads the dialogue each month for their respective customers and products with key counterparts in Sales and Marketing.


  • Develop demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function.
  • Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, understand statistical forecast models and evaluate forecast results and accuracy based on ABC product grouping linked to volume and margin criteria
  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions
  • Interact with sales, marketing, and customer finance to understand demand forecast drivers.
  • Utilise a collaborative and consensus approach by working with Sales, Marketing and Customer Finance to obtain and ensure that current and accurate information is used for demand forecasts.

  • Use and maintain the Pronto - Advanced Sales Forecasting system as the primary forecasting system tool. Run legacy systems in parallel till confidence is built with Advanced Sales Forecasting.
  • Provide input to the Supply Planning organisation in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs. (Understand ASF interface with MRP within Pronto ERP environment)
  • Closely coordinate and communicate customer action plans with supply planning
  • Drive continuous improvement of Advanced Sales Forecasting system and processes. Develop policy and procedures and train out to key stake holder group. Document any process changes and communicate accordingly Create statistical forecasts:
    - Gather, analyse and validate data
    - Execute statistical modelling software - ASF
    - Review resulting statistical forecast models
    - Apply error analysis techniques to improve forecasting
    - Summarize/aggregate statistical forecasts
  • Review sales plans, customer finance Budget Updates or Latest Estimates and demand drivers:
    - Present, solicit, and assess feedback on the various forecasts from sales, marketing and finance
    - Recommend adjustments for operational forecasts
    - Review promotional plans with sales
  • Prepare and maintain relevant reports pertaining to demand planning process Achieve consensus for operational demand forecasts by facilitating a collaborative planning process with sales, marketing and finance personnel

Skills & Experience Required

Having a passion for data along with highly developed analytical skills including:

  • Tertiary levels of mathematics
  • Advanced Excel skills

Experience working within an ERP environment that has integrated statistical forecasting capability. APICS or other forecasting Certification preferred.

  • BA/BS college degree or its equivalent. MBA preferred.
  • Systems knowledge: ERP such as Pronto or SAP, Cognos reporting & report-writing
  • Prior perishable business experience in either FMCG or manufacturing environment
  • Experience within business that have integrated MRP systems.
  • Minimum of 2- 3 years’ post-graduate experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to perishable products that have variable manufacturing lead times.
