About the role:

As part of various collaborate government teams, to plan and undertake analysis of riparian plant ecology including survey design, analysis and reporting for the purpose of informing water management policy and planning in NSW.

  • Conducting field surveys to collect information about the numbers and distribution of organisms; specifically floodplain and riparian plants.
  • Taxonomy - classifying organisms and applying sampling strategies and employing a range of habitat survey techniques, records and reports specific to floodplain and riparian plants in NSW.
  • Understanding and communicating the needs of government water management decision makers, within short term operational and longer term policy and planning settings.
  • Ability to analyse and report on complex biological data for water management purposes.
  • Ability to work within a team with a dynamic group and multidisciplinary environment, including within government and with research scientists.

Essential requirements:

  • Appropriate degree level qualifications in ecology, environmental science or a related discipline.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Government’s water management policies.
  • Detailed understanding of the relationships between river hydrology and the relationship to vegetation ecology
  • Detailed understanding of vegetation ecology and vegetation condition assessment methods
  • Detailed understanding of the use of hydrology or other relevant models to assess changes to riparian plant ecology as a result of changes to water management practices.
  • 10 years or more experience in working in collaborative government-based scientific teams
