Ensure the Institute’s public relations, communication and media functions, activities and services promote the professional and corporate image of the Institute and its full range of products and services to local, regional, state, national and international customers.


  • Research and write material which maximises the positive coverage and promotion of the Institute.
  • Develop, lead and manage the Institute marketing, promotions and communications strategies in local, national and international markets to attract and retain students and industry customers.
  • Monitor sensitive issues in the media and provide strategic advice, including the preparation of material to optimise the effective use of social and online media
  • Support the Institute Director’s communication and media engagement strategy.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of programs, policies, issues and events along with researching and analysing issues, preparing speeches, presentations, speaking notes and comments on a wide range of issues to
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with media and other external stakeholders, as part of a coordinated and integrated communications strategy, to enhance the profile of the Institute.
  • Promote the Institute through media liaison to position information about the Institute in the best light
  • Provide expert advice and recommend public relations opportunities to enhance the Institute’s market profile in the media.
  • Assist the Director Marketing and Communications to develop and implement an integrated communications strategy, bringing together media, social media and publications.
  • Assist the Manager Marketing and Communications in coordinating the production of publications, advertising activities and implementation of the social media strategy.
  • Ghost-write, edit and proofread information to ensure content is concise, professional and appropriate for media and other promotional activities.
  • Provide advice, support and direction to internal customers on the implementation of appropriate.
  • Promote the Marketing and Communications Unit’s products and services.
  • Work with Unit specialist staff to advise on presentation, design and content for websites, media
  • Ensure that agreed targets for external communications are identified, communicated and achieved in line with the Institute’s objectives.
  • Undertake research and provide recommendations for new technology and avenues that support the promotion of the Institute.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate Institute marketing guidelines and procedures that account for prescribed standards and certification requirements.
  • Implement and support continuous improvement practices to facilitate customer responsiveness.
  • Contribute to the development of the Unit’s business plan and implement actions as required for the achievement of Unit and Institute goals.
  • Provide leadership and strategic advice to institute managers and staff on the development of marketing, communication and promotional activities and materials that are aligned to the Institute Strategy and that respond to and influence consumer behaviour.
  • Lead and manage all public relations activities and promotional campaigns for the Institute to ensure that customer information is timely, accurate and meets Australian Quality Training Framework requirements.
  • Ensure that the institute brand is well positioned in markets relevant to the institute business strategy.
  • Provide strategic marketing and communications advice to the Institute to ensure to ensure the Institute is positioned to maintain current customers and secure future business opportunities.
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive website and social media strategy that utilises a range communication tools to effectively engage with customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement Institute wide standards, protocols and guidelines for branding, marketing and promotional material that ensure compliance to policies and Australian Quality Training Framework requirements.
  • Lead and manage relationships with relevant key external stakeholders and media outlets to ensure the Institute’s capabilities and positioning in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) and tertiary marketplace.
  • Lead the development, of clear, concise and consistent course and Institute information in consultation with Faculties, Business Units and Colleges for dissemination both nationally and internationally.

Selection Criteria

  • Excellent skills in researching, writing and editing high-quality targeted media releases, media materials and corporate publications.
  • Demonstrated evidence of media liaison and public relations skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, presentation and interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of the VET sector and related priorities, or the ability to acquire that knowledge quickly.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Training policies
  • Demonstrated ability to research, identify and present complex concepts (both written and oral).
  • Demonstrated ability to employ a range of complex negotiating and influencing strategies to engage key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a creative environment which seeks innovative ways to successfully promote the organisation’s brand and identity.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conceptualise and align marketing strategies and techniques with organisational strategy.
  • Demonstrated use of expert knowledge of current marketing trends and consumer behaviour to inform innovative marketing and promotional campaigns through the use of multiple touch points.
  • Capacity to lead the Institute in implementing the Department’s Aboriginal education and training policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
