An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Principal Internal Auditor to join a supportive team within one of QLD’s Government Departments. Based in Brisbane city, this role is to commence ASAP to for a contract of up to 6 months.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing complex information systems audits/ investigations/reviews/projects across the department to determine whether systems comply with legislation, departmental requirements and/or professional/industry standards.
  • Produce high quality written reports and undertake presentations on audit outcomes to different stakeholders.
  • Lead and supervise audit teams to ensure successful conduct of complex audit assignments.
  • Assist in the development of auditing tools and techniques to achieve efficiencies in audit coverage, tracking issues, providing exception reports.
  • Assist in the implementation of business intelligence or data analysis tools.
  • Stakeholder engagements.
  • Supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviors.
  • Assist in the development of an annual audit plan for the department.

The successful candidate will process the following experience and attributes:

  • Ability to plan, conduct and manage complex information systems audits/ investigations/reviews/projects across applying sound diagnostic and evaluation skills.
  • High-level knowledge and understanding of information management and information technology functions and requirements.
  • Highly skilled in the application of legislation and standards applicable to a public sector organisation.
  • Demonstrated skills in research, analytical assessment and problem-solving complex issues.
  • Good understanding of system landscape or system architecture diagrams (e.g. network infrastructure maps and application systems diagrams).
  • Experience in developing data assurance requirements and reviewing outputs from data assurance activities.
  • Excellent communication, consultation and negotiation.
  • Good team player and leadership skills (ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviors).

Desirable skills:

  • Possess relevant qualifications such as CISA, CISM, CISSP and/or experience implementing ISO 27001, ISO 17799, COBIT and ITIL
  • SAP and business intelligence tools
  • Project governance and assurance including relevant certifications (e.g. Prince2, PMP)
  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems Administration or related field; Master’s in accounting or IS
