Our client requires a Senior Media Manager for an initial 3-6 month contract starting immediately. This role will be based in the Sydney CBD and will require engagement across a number of internal and external business units on a daily basis.

The primary objective of this role is to lead the strategic engagement on media and reputation issues with external agencies and other executives on behalf of the organisation, provide strategic direction and coordination for the media and identify and manage reputational risks for the cluster.

Key accountabilities

  • In collaboration with the Media and Issues managers across the organisation, lead the development of a media (including social media) and issues management strategy that includes the development of cross-portfolio protocols and guidelines for media and issues management and ensures that the strategy is aligned to the key objectives of the organisation
  • Provide support to senior executives working intensively with the organisations media management teams to provide a strong degree of oversight and coordination across their activities and ensure a more strategic response to reputational issues
  • Act as the key point of contact for strategic engagement on media and reputation issues with the Ministers’ Offices on behalf of the organisation by being on top of all critical media issues cluster-wide
  • Provide strategic advice on resolution of media issues by leading and guiding the provision of a media monitoring service
  • Working closely with the Senior Media Officers, lead a team of Media Officers, to sustain an engaged and supported team that is producing high standards of work, evidenced by well supported key stakeholders and a positive impact on the organisations reputation
  • Work with the Strategic Issues Manager to proactively manage public affairs issues, particularly those arising in Parliament or that are contentious or high profile
  • Provide strategic media communication advice and support to the senior executive team through the preparation of material for public engagements of the Secretary and other Executive staff. Additionally, provide expert media advice and assistance to agencies in emergencies

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience managing staff
  • Previous Government experience preferred but not essential
