The Manager Industry Support Services is responsible for leading and coordinating consultation and communication with the freight industry and local government and ensuring a strong customer focus for all aspects of engagement through the Branch.

Key Roles and Accountabilities

  • Maintain a high level of service in the delivery of information by leading the Branch’s partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure customer concerns are dealt with in a cohesive, timely and professional manner.
  • Lead and manage the Branch’s engagement strategies with local government.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of industry communication networks including the website content in relation to industry communications and other communication resources and materials.
  • Drive the delivery of the programs of work for industry and local government working groups.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with industry contacts and local government as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the secretariat services required for the administration of meetings of Industry Council and other working groups that may be required and provide strategic advice regarding issues to be addressed through these forums.

Key Challenges and Influences

  • Managing the responsibilities of the position during the implementation of the reform program.
  • Managing difficult and complex issues that require the Branch to balance the demands by industry for greater productivity with the need to maintain high levels of safety, asset sustainability and efficient network management.
  • Delivering a professional communication and local government engagement program for the industry within a limited operating budget.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, communications or related discipline or equivalent breadth of relevant experience.
  • Proven stakeholder management and liaison experience at a senior level.
  • High level and proven experience in leading and developing strategies and policies that meet organisational goals and changing stakeholder needs within public sector legislative and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a small team with a focus on maintaining a professional and proactive approach during periods of organisational reform and transition.
  • Superior high level negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to inform and influence audiences at senior levels.
  • Superior written communication skills and ability to prepare Ministerial correspondence, briefing notes, presentations and speech notes for state and / or national forums
