This position is responsible for:

The responsibility of the Training Officer is to plan and deliver and assess training within the Training Officers area of vocational competence consistent within the scope.

The expectation of the position will depend upon the experience and knowledge the Training Officer brings to the position.

Training and Professional Development

Position Training Requirements

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  • Must hold appropriate certification or be able to demonstrate vocational competence to the level required to fulfil the role. (Preferred Hospitality / Commercial Cookery).
  • Defensive Driving
  • Current first aid

  • Cross Cultural Awareness Training
  • WHS Awareness Training

The incumbent can be expected to be allocated duties not specifically outlined within their position description, however within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from a person occupying this position.

Key Result Areas will be negotiated as part of the regular performance planning and review processes.

The incumbent may be required to undertake a police check and will be eligible to attain a Northern Territory Working with Children clearance prior to employment.

The incumbent must hold a current Northern Territory manual driver’s license.

Selection criteria


  • Completion of or progress towards certificate IV or higher in Training and Assessment and/or subsequent relevant qualifications and experience in related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and functions of Registered Training Organisations, including on-the-job training, assessment and classroom delivery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National VET Quality Framework and the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  • Demonstrated experience in the understanding and application of National Training Packages.
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a small team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed liaison, negotiation and representation skills and abilities with the aim to generate new business opportunities.


  • Experience delivering training and assessing in the Certificate III in Hospitality.
  • Ability to establish networks with urban and remote locations across the Territory including schools

Statement of specific accountabilities

Training and Assessment

  • Review and develop training schedules and programs ensuring all delivery and assessment materials are consistent with current industry standards.
  • Review systems, policies and practices to ensure continuous improvement across all areas of delivery, management and administration to ensure best practice.
  • Monitor student progress on a regular basis
  • Ensure a high standard of service delivery to students by providing detailed program information, efficient enrolment procedures, quality monitoring, counselling and support through training.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.


  • Report on statistical data, as required under funding agreements.
  • Systematically collect client and student feedback within established processes and provide recommendations for improvement to management.
  • Participate in internal or external audits and facilitate the process.
  • In conjunction with the RTO Manager, develop, implement and monitor Training policies and procedures. Identify opportunities for improvement and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Ensure training and assessment resources are contextualized as appropriate to meet client needs.
  • Maintain student records and all documentation to ensure accurate and timely data reporting and ongoing compliance with AVETMISS requirements for both contract and total VET activity reporting purposes.

General Administration

  • Administer and maintain database in accordance with established procedures ensuring national standards are maintained.
  • Prepare reports and other documentation as required


  • Contribute to management meeting reporting requirements through the RTO Manager to ensure adherence to the strategic direction of the company.
  • Work within the team and value individual differences and diversity.
  • Establish effective workplace relationships with groups and individuals.
