Our client, a leader in the Canadian energy sector, is hiring a Financial Advisor for a one year contract with long term potential.



Specific accountabilities:

• Prepare, review and approve journal entries, reconciliations and analysis and trial balance on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions recorded
• Research and collaborate with Accounting Research Expert Group and other business units on accounting issues as they arise, including assessing, documenting, resolving and communicating the accounting, disclosure, especially those analysis based on local materiality for GPT entities
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of US GAAP
• Prepare unconsolidated quarterly and annual financial statements for tax equity partners
• Coordinate and prepare consolidated Power quarterly impairment analysis, revenue recognition, related party, contract review checklist and other key schedules as required
• Synthesize accounting issues and be able to explain their impacts to management and auditors
• Ensure departmental SOX compliance and effective management of SOX documents and evidence
• Provide support to Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and business partners
• Identify & provide recommendation for process improvements through a review of accounts and associated process
• Provide support to the business for any new or unusual transactions occur to ensure the processes and accounting is accurate and complete
• Back up to Power Accounting Financial Advisor or Supervisor, Power Operational Accounting as required
• Other tasks as may be assigned

Scope/Dimensions

• Responsible for identifying and helping to resolve/escalate any potential accounting issues to ensure timely resolution and accurate financial information in general ledger
• Ensure controls and processes are adhered to
• Provide operational accounting support to the US and Canadian assets within the Green Power and Transmission Group
• Pressure to deliver timely and accurate financial information and meet tight financial close and reporting deadlines
• Continuous increase in size, diversity and complexity of operations and regulations
• Close attention to working relationships with other departments and other BUs that legally own certain Green Energy assets

Qualifications
Preferred:
• Familiarity with Oracle, Hyperion Smartview

CPA required

• University degree in a business or accounting program
• Professional accounting designation (CPA) with 5+ years post qualification experience. Total years of applicable work experience is 9+ years.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP
• Experience in Technical Accounting/Accounting Research role
• Experience in External Financial Reporting role an asset
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
• Strong computer skills; experience with various financial accounting systems and applications
• Ability to lead work on various projects concurrently
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proven oral and written communication skills both to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Proven interpersonal skills in dealing with and obtaining cooperation from others
• High level of personal and professional integrity
• Willing to work under pressure and some overtime to meet tight deadlines
