Are you looking for a great opportunity within a top 5 bank? Do you have Legal Assistant experience and are knowledgeable about the court system? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

We are currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant for a 3-month contract with a top 5 bank in downtown Edmonton.

Pay rate: $30.00/hr
Hours: Mon-Fri (9-5 pm)
Role: Legal Assistant
Contract: 3 months

- Prepare transcription of written or recorded documents, standard legal documents i.e. correspondence, factums, motions, summonses, etc.
- Draft standard legal documents, correspondence and pleadings for review by lawyer(s).
- Edit grammar, punctuation and spelling as needed.
- Exercise initiative and judgment in Lawyer’s absence, i.e. negotiates extensions of time.
- Prioritize and respond to diverse incoming communications.
- Provide client service to both internal and external clients.
- Manage Lawyer's calendar i.e., schedules appointments, coordinates appearances.
- Answer a wide variety of telephone inquiries based on knowledge of case.
- Respond to inquiries exercising good judgment and discretion. Respond to written or telephone inquiries with a standard letter. Composes and prepares routine inquiries.
- Establish, maintain and when necessary, revises lawyer’s files. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard office precedents and procedures. Performs additional duties as required:
- Arrange medical exams.
- Reception relief.
- Maintain lists of witnesses, Subpoenas, fees, etc.
- Request fees for payment from Claims
department.
- Participate in arranging lawyer’s files for easy
access during trials
- Inform witnesses of scheduled court appearances.
- Maintain Law Library.
- And other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Adhere to appropriate ethics of the role; follows and complies with company policies and methodologies.
- Ensure information is provided and shared with appropriate individuals in a timely fashion.
- General administrative duties including: photocopying, filing, mail, etc.
- Responsible for answering questions or providing guidance for less experienced legal assistants.

Qualifications
- Excellent typing and data entry skills (speed and accuracy)
- 3 years’ experience as a Law Clerk or litigation experience
- Good court system knowledge
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) 5/5
- Computer Savvy proficient with MS Office Suites
- Secretarial diploma
- Self starter, motivated, can work under pressure, positive
- Great proof reading ability
- Proficient in MS office
