The Specialist, Risk Management is responsible for leadership of the conceptualization, design and implementation of strategies and practices associated with the provision of the governance structure, management processes, and stakeholder consulting regarding risk management for Western Canada operations.

• Providing risk management, business, planning, and process governance expertise

• Providing risk management expertise to the organization from both a technical perspective and a process governance perspective

• Providing and/or supporting education regarding Risk Management at various levels within the company.

• Development and assurance of applicable internal standards

• Assurance of existing Risk Management processes against applicable regulatory and company standards/practices

• Generation of key risk related reports

• Hold technical expertise in risk management tools, techniques, and processes for a broad range of applications with specific expert knowledge on the oil and gas sector.

• Support / inform CAPEX and OPEX funding decisions through the application and/or governance of risk management principles and processes. Project budgets typically range between $25M to $10M.

• Support the reduction of risk to our client through the application and/or governance of risk management principles and processes.

• Support and/or lead the generation of executive level reporting of risk related information such as Top Operational Risks, Corporate Risk Assessment, and reports to the OIC.

• Assurance of the risk management processes against applicable regulatory requirements and corporate standards

• The consistent application and documentation of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment tools and methodologies

• Influences internal stakeholders in situations in which they may not be predisposed to agree, e.g., embedding a Risk Culture in the business requires stakeholders gain an understanding of trade-offs between acceptable risk and operational efficiencies.

• Highly capable to influence internal stakeholder functional groups to adopt new practices or revise existing practices to more closely align with appropriate risk management practices and achieve higher value for the company.

• Makes responsible decisions and conclusions based upon technical risk analysis and assessments. Only items that are related to externally (“politically”) sensitive issues and high cost items ($10M) are required to be forwarded to leader for review.

• Demonstrates broad business and technical knowledge in resolving problems through the use of risk management tools and techniques.

• Capably coordinates and facilitates interrelationships between internal and external stakeholders.

• Works independently on complex technical issues with periodic check-ins with people leader.

• University degree or technical diploma will be considered

• Comprehensive understanding of risk management processes (e.g. ISO 31000)

• 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience implementing risk management governance structures

• Formal training/certification in operational risk management concepts and tools and their application within a business environment

• Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment tools and methodologies

• Knowledge of probabilistic analysis tools and methodologies (Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis)

• Broad range of experience with risk governance development and management, consulting, and demonstrated competency in developing effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.

• Experience in influencing and implementing change across a large multi-functional organization

• Strong interpersonal skills and facilitation skills to foster open communication among diverse stakeholders

• Communication skill with the ability to paraphrase technical risk concepts into terminology that is easily understandable to external company stakeholders.

• Gas Plant and Pipeline experience

• Experience working with operations teams previously
