TORONTO PUBLIC SECTOR CLIENT REQUIRES TWO PERMANENT SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATORS - ANY ONE OR MORE OF ORACLE, SQL SERVER, DB2 AND INFORMIX

THERE IS A POTENTIAL POSITION FOR A THIRD DBA - WITH HADOOP EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Must possess a minimum of 10 years of current senior database administration and support experience in complex production environments.

• Must have experience designing, implementing and supporting complex high availability and disaster recovery database environments.

• Current certification in one or more of the following RDBMS technologies would be considered an asset: SQL Server, IBM DB2, Informix and Oracle.

• University Degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.

• Significant experience designing, building, tuning and supporting relational database environments in one or more database technologies:

SQL Server.
DB2.
Informix.
Oracle.

•Significant experience designing, implementing and supporting high availability and disaster recovery environments using one or more of:

• SQL Server mirroring, clustering, Always-on

• DB2 HADR

• Informix HDR and RSS

• Oracle Data guard

•Effective troubleshooting and problem solving skills to aid in the identification of root cause issues and develop creative solutions.

•Strong SQL programming and tuning skills.

•Effective strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and demonstration of pro-active work in the design and management of reliable and robust production systems.

•Experience in one or more operating systems:
o AIX/UNIX and
o Microsoft Windows Server

•Experience with working in a 7X24 environment.





Responsibilities:

• Primary duties include implementing and maintaining backup and recovery procedures; maintaining data security, reliability and availability; capacity planning, usage monitoring and performance tuning.

• Implements RDBMS (Relational Database Management Systems) into all environments.

• Provides technical assessment of existing and new database software products including database engine and auxiliary software and makes recommendations for their use based on cost, suitability and performance requirements.

• Participates in system development activities providing technical recommendations to application development teams and users.

• Provides performance tuning recommendations and assistance to developers.

• Provide complex technical support for existing hardware and software products. Assesses and recommends release levels and updates of database software and utilities, taking into account the impact on resource utilization and the support of existing products.

• Develops procedures and provides input to standards relating to technical aspects of database software.

• Develops, implements and documents database related utilities and other standard activities.

• Participates in the short- and long-term planning processes related to hardware, software, and capacity planning and disaster recovery.

• Works with ITS (Information Technology Services) and security team to establish and maintain technical aspects of database security.

• Acts as a liaison with ITS users and computer vendors to identify and resolve problems.

• Provides information and analyses for forecasting purposes.

• Provides technical input to formal tenders and information proposals.

• Maintains high level of technical knowledge of trends and products.

• Trains and educates ITS operations and technical staff, application personnel and user groups.





In addition to responsibilities: for Sr. Database Administrator with Hadoop Experience

• Installing Hadoop in Linux environment.
• Deployment in a Hadoop cluster and its maintenance.
• Health check of a Hadoop cluster monitoring whether it is up and running all the time.
• Analyse the storage data volume and allocating the space in HDFS. Resource management in a cluster environment. This involves new node creation and removal of unused ones.
• Configuring Name Node to ensure its high availability.
• Implementing and administering Hadoop infrastructure on an ongoing basis.
• Required hardware and software deployment in Hadoop environment. Furthermore to expanding of existing environments
