Pre and Post Harvest Operations Manager



The Pre and Post Harvest Operations Manager is a senior leadership position, reporting to the Regional Manager Europe and leads the OPC and Technical teams to implement and achieve the required Europe orchard to market excellence targets. With effective management of the team of twelve, the Pre and Post Harvest Operations Manager will strive to achieve the Europe growth strategy.




  • Lead European production and packaging programmes from orchard selection and planting to pre-cooling and packing to ensure production and quality targets are met throughout the supply chain.
  • Build European kiwifruit industry technical capability through development and execution of an effective extension program with the goal of decreasing post harvest operators’ dependence on expertise over the longer term.
  • Build well-coordinated teams with optimum information flow from orchard to pre harvest, harvest to post harvest and from pre and post harvest to OPC.
  • Ensure pre and post harvest operations sector is well integrated into the overall business (e.g. CRM, PDOT etc.).
  • Benchmark against NZ best practices adapting when necessary for European operations to meet orchard and post-harvest KPIs.
  • Evaluate and manage the work program managed by the Orchard Productivity and Grower Services
  • Manage and team with technical transfer via field days, field trials, supplier tech meetings and grower visits.
  • Manage Technical team as they perform key functions pertaining to smart monitoring of orchards, residue testing, harvest clearances, coolstore protocol management and conditioning programs which all combine to deliver maximum volume of class l fruit  customers worldwide.
  • Manage relationship with Innovation team to ensure timely and appropriate R&D trials which relate to highest priority on orchard and post-harvest performance improvements to ensure Europe obtain the promise of providing the best kiwifruit in the world from marketing teams.
  • Manage relationship with European supplier’s technical and post-harvest teams to ensure optimal execution of harvest clearance, packing and coolstorage protocols.
  • Manage selection, negotiation and contracting of independent lab testing services in Europe and interact with NZ based team members to ensure consistency with NZ protocols and procedures.



  • Appropriate tertiary qualification (preferred)
  • Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • SAP preferred
  • At least three years’ senior management experience, with autonomous and team driven approach
  • Experience in commercial fruit production, harvest management, packing processes and cool storage management essential
  • Research experience in fruit production (preferred)
  • Fluent in English and Italian (written and spoken) French/Spanish an advantage
  • Flexibility to work in locations in Italy and Europe, and internationally as required
  • Flexibility on work hours, particularly through the main season September – March. Some weekend work will be required, and out of hour’s accessibility by phone/email required especially through the main season
