The Company

This organisation is a market leader in providing excellent electricity and gas services to customers. They are currently experiencing a period of rapid growth due to market success and a growing customer base. As this is a fast growing medium sized organisation, joining them at this point will allow you to influence the direction of the development team moving forward.

The Team

This is brand new team that has traditionally been supported from overseas however now that they are looking to build this team locally in Wellington. The Principal Developer will be relocating here imminently and with this in mind there are several opportunities that have been created. This team will build and maintain the web and mobile applications for the wider business which are used by their customers. This will also mean that you will be working to establish best practices early on and define the development methodologies that work best to the businesses needs.

The Role

As a Front End developer your responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop new user-facing features
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
  • Design mobile-based features
  • Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • Develop new plugins and pages on the website
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies

What they need

To be in strong consideration we are looking for:

  • HTML5, CSS3 and server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS.
  • Front-end (CSS) frameworks like Bootstrap (preferable).
  • JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery.
  • Good understanding of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as AngularJS, React, Ember, KnockoutJS, BackboneJS, ReactJS, DurandalJS etc.
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Knowledge of custom WordPress development, including theme, plugin, and widget development.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • An understanding of development best practices and an appreciation for great design (visual, UI, UX) + Mobile Website
  • Good understanding of the importance and all the aspects involved in site-speed optimization.
  • Good understanding of SEO principles.
