job description

Have you ever considered a career with NZ Police? This is a customer service role like no other, where your customer focus and communication skills will help make a positive difference to the lives of people around you.

NZ Police’s mission is to be the safest country in the world and to have the trust and confidence of all. The way the public communicate and engage with Police is central to achieving this. Growth in the number of calls to Police means NZ Police needs people who want to help others by connecting them to the right Police services and providing direct and personal assistance.

We will train you

Our in depth classroom scenario-based training and our supportive culture will set you on the path towards a rewarding and successful career within NZ Police. You will receive:

  • 7 weeks initial classroom-based training
  • 2 week coaching (after training)
  • Ongoing mentoring & support

When do these positions start?

We will be supporting NZ Police throughout the year, with the first start date commencing in February 2019.

Who will you be helping?

As a Police communicator you will take a frontline role, you’ll be the first point of contact for people who need assistance in non-emergency situations, completing reports of historic crime where Police attendance isn’t required immediately and providing the public with information or connecting them to the right place.

This is not your average call centre, customer service role. Every call is different, so you need to be able to think on your feet and deal with anything that comes your way. There may even be times you’ll need to deal with critical events or emergency situations. Our training will ensure you have the knowledge, skills and support to respond to situations like this.

The must haves:

  • New Zealand Citizen, Australian Citizen or hold NZ Permanent Residency
  • Ability for you and your immediate family to pass security and background checking
  • Reliable transport to get to and from work
  • This role requires you to work a 24/7 roster. You will be required to work weekends, public holiday and night shifts. Schedules are determined in 90 day blocks, you will know your roster up to 3 months in advance

We welcome applications from everyone who wants to help people regardless of gender, ethnicity, culture, sexuality, or faith. To better reflect New Zealand’s growing diversity we want you to bring your background, culture, and values to the job.
