Salary: £25,714 - £40,124 (M1 - UPS2) dependant on experience

We are supporting a School in Eltham who are looking for a SENCO. The schools provide day placements for students aged 4 to 19 years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.
Main Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to the development of high quality teaching and learning meeting the needs of children and young people with a range of complex and special needs enabling them to meet their full potential.
Key Duties:
- Establish and promote an inclusive approach to SEN across the whole school
- Manage the Annual Review Process with the assistance of an administration assistant
- Be a key liaison with Local Authority EHCP Coordinators and all professionals in the field
- Contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences, appropriate to the class group, by supporting the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
- Support and manage Teaching Assistants and their CPD and have input into the specialist Inset required for teaching staff
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure that all relevant information regarding students is effectively communicated to support their development and wellbeing at all times
Qualifications
- National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within 3 years of appointment [note: this is a requirement under the SEND Code of Practice]
- QTS, PGCE or equivalent is essential
- Teaching experience (two years minimum)
- Involvement in self-evaluation and development planning
- Experience of conducting training/leading INSET

- Commitment to the role, the desire to put children first and treat them as individuals
- Be positive and creative in meeting pupils' needs
- Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Competent ICT skills
- Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN and SEND Code of Practice
- Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
