We've landed a new Assistant Quantity Surveyor role with a Principal Contractor delivering in excess of £70 million worth projects in Kent over the next 5 years.

Job title: Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Contract type: Freelance or Permanent

Salary / pay rate: Up to £220 per day

Location: Chatham, Kent

The company:

As a major UK based principal contractor, the building projects they manage are wide and varied. The main sectors they operate in include healthcare, residential, commercial and retail with value reaching up to £50 million. Currently running at 2 live projects in Kent programmed to complete in 2020 and a further scheme due to commence in 2020, this company's on-going success has meant it is time to recruit to bolster the commercial team, so that they can continue to deliver quality projects for private developers and housing associations.

The project:

A new build RC frame development for a private developer delivering 200+ high-spec units all for the private sale market. The development is currently coming out of the ground and has a programme that completes August 2020.

The role:

As the project based Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will assist the commercial lead for the 2 projects. Over a period of time you will be developed, guided and mentored under the leadership and supervision of the commercial lead with the clear intent to help you gain valuable experience leading you to level where you can manage your own schemes from conception to completion. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor role is to:

* Be involved with the commercial management of 2 projects running concurrently and administer.
* Assist with the control of various subcontract packages from enquiry through to final account.
* Assist with the measurement and re-measurement of the project works.
* Involvement with procurement.
* Support on the valuation of the works.
* Liaise with supply chain.
* Package management and change control.
* Prepare comprehensive order particulars and management of subcontractors.
* Process various approvals including payment notices, applications, valuations and variations.
* Use strong negotiation skills and be capable of settling internal and external final accounts.
* Promote company ethos whilst working within an operational team.

About you:

To be an Assistant Quantity Surveyor within this organisation you will:

* Have gained circa 2 years relevant experience with a principal or main contractor.
* Be highly numerate, capable of accepting multiple instructions, able to prioritise, coupled with a professional and strong work ethic.
* Ideally be on a path to a construction orientated BTEC/HNC/HND/Degree.
* Possess excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
* Have excellent IT literacy and skill which are critical for this role.
