Contracts Manager

An architectural company is looking for a contracts manager to join their vibrant team in their head office, Angel. It is vital to have consultancy experience within the construction & property sector.

Note: Please read the duties carefully as administration duties are included.

Responsibilities:



* Ensuring that draft contracts are checked promptly, any difficult provisions identified and discussed with the Partners in charge and appropriate action taken.
* Ensuring that draft contracts are sent to our insurers for comment and that comments are actioned
* Streamlining the above processes by checking whether we have previously entered into identical or similar contracts or relevant clauses
* Developing the judgement to know which issues should be contested and which can be accommodated
* Negotiating changes to draft contracts when necessary
* Following through to ensure that contracts are signed and completed
* Digital and hard copy filing of contracts and related correspondence
* Maintaining a contracts tracker spreadsheet
* Liaising with project leaders to ensure that supporting documents are all present and correct: schedules of services, fee cashflows, responsibility matrices etc

Once a contract has been finalised, the Contracts Manager will continue to support the project leaders in the following areas:



* Advising on whether a client instruction goes beyond the contracted service and merits additional payment
* Negotiating agreement to any contract variations
* Advising on, responding to and helping to resolve any alleged performance issues
* Dealing with potential and actual claims, including liaison with insurers and legal advisors

Admin duties:



* Administering the speedy and effective execution of contracts for all projects
* Negotiation with clients, lawyers, subconsultants and other relevant parties to ensure that the best commercial terms are obtained
* Reducing risk and liability, liaising with external lawyers and insurers to understand the commercial implication of contract clauses and what is reasonable in the relevant market
* Working with the Partners, other project leaders and the Communications team to assist with proposals for new business opportunities
* Working with the Finance Director, to maintain and renew our professional indemnity insurance
* Keeping abreast of relevant developments in legislation and case law
* Providing training to project teams on contract matters

Candidate Requirements:



* Have good attention to detail
* It is ideal to have a legal qualification.
* Previous experience working in a similar industry - rail, civil engineering, construction
* Experience working in the commercial sector - commercial administration, assistant / junior QS level
* Be technically strong and proficient user of Microsoft Office Packages inc Excel
