job description

Are you interested in progressing your career in Education but wondering how to make your first move?

Do you think a classroom based position would give you the skills and experience to move your career to the next level?

Are you considering applying to take a PGCE and want to gain some experience in schools to support your application?

Randstad Education Crawley are currently offering a free training course to provide you with the skills, mind set and professional experience needed to work as a Cover Supervisor. The training course will include a 1 day workshop to be delivered at our Education office in Crawley which is just a 5 minutes walk from the train and bus station and is just off the M23 so is easily accessible by car too. The 1 day workshop will be followed up by applying your new knowledge in a practical setting in one of our partner school for up to 3 days.

The role of a cover supervisor:

* Covering teachers who require a free period or are absent. This usually means overseeing the work that was pre-set by the absent teacher but occasionally requires some quick thinking to engage the children in an activity if there is no such plan in place.
* To support with additional duties such as break time duties and interventions with certain children who need additional learning support.
* A cover supervisor will sometimes be responsible for a form group which involves registrations and some pastoral responsibility.

The course will cover the following topics:

* The Cover Supervisor role and responsibilities
* What a Cover Supervision day looks like
* Safeguarding children
* Special educational needs and disabilities
* Classroom management and recognising behaviour issues
* Work experience - To complete the course you will be placed within a local school for up to 3 days to put your learning into practice which will enable you to acquire the references needed to gain employment.

Pre-requisites for the course include:

* The ability to think on your feet and demonstrate adaptability - sometimes you may experience challenges such as last minute room changes and poor or insufficient work set by the regular teacher
* The willingness and ability to work within a team - this includes effective communication with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the school
* A strong and well rounded education - you're not expected to know everything about everything but you will be asked to cover subjects you're not overly familiar with at times
* Experience of having worked with and developed relationships with children previously

Following the completion of the course you will possess the following:

* Strong behaviour management skills with the ability to keep pupils on task and ensuring a constructive working environment
* The ability to explain, supervise and respond to any questions from pupils about work that has been set, regardless of subject
* Awareness of how systems, policies and procedures vary from school to school and to work inside the guidelines, for sanctions, behaviour, delivery of work etc.

The next date for training in the Crawley branch will be Friday 22nd February 2019 subject to availability, though other dates may become available.

Please do still get in touch if you're interested in this free course but can't make this date by calling Dale Wyatt on 01293 527 416 or emailing
