EC&I Design Engineer
£35,000 - £40,000

Role Purpose:

To manage, co-ordinate and provide specific project and engineering support.

To technically manage design output on projects.

To work alongside the Engineering Design Manager and Lead EC&I Engineer in setting budgets, estimates, quality requirements and programmes for design works.

Support the design in the following areas:

* Concept Design
* Scheme Design
* Detailed Design
* Implementation
* Commissioning
* Hand-over

Undertake Value Engineering (VE) exercise and question the consultants design where required.

Site based for periods of time.

Ensuring CAD Operators prepare fully coordinated model and then GA's to support the project from design to final completion.

To manage and monitor the engineering scope of the project to ensure it is delivered at the right quality, on time and budget or estimate.

Functions under the direct supervision of the Engineering Design Manager. This function can be transferred to the Project Manager for the managing and provision of project engineering requirements.

Senior representative for Engineering Design and as such must ensure they, or their direct reportees are working to the company's processes and procedures.

Responsible for managing Engineering Design projects to ensure they are delivered to a prescribed quality, specification and deadline.

Manage the inter-discipline design co-ordination to ensure it is performed at the right quality level by active planning and control of the same.

Cross-functional co-ordination with Operations Director, Engineering Design Manager, Managers, vendors, customers, 3rd party Design.

Highlight and report any deficiencies within the team, processes or procedures.

Support procurement in the purchase of any packaged plant or equipment.

Role Scope:

Functionally accountable to the Engineering Design Manager responsible for managing and ensuring the Engineering Design requirements for each tender or project are met and are suitable and sufficient from quality, cost and programme aspects.

Also accountable to the designated Project Manager in ensuring the Engineering Design requirements are met within the set budget and contract programme

Personal Qualities & Experience:

An appropriate Engineering qualification and relevant experience in a related role to ensure ability to complete the role.

Knowledge and understanding of all Company management systems.

Knowledge of Company products, services and customers to best provide a professional service.

Positive communication skills in dealing with people so that problems can be satisfactorily resolved and customer satisfaction is maintained.

Ability to work on and control multiple projects throughout their life span to ensure effective completion to the standards required.

Ability to develop and maintain good positive relationships with both internal and external customers.

Skill to manage a team of people adopting the most effective approach to ensure all team tasks are completed to the best of each individuals ability.

Good understanding of the principles of project management.

Good understanding of nuclear engineering and management system.

Duties and responsibilities:

Provision of advice to management (within their area of competence / specialisation) as relevant to all aspects of the company's business, this could include but not be limited to:

* Regulatory codes and standards applicable to area of competence

Assist in workload forecasting and manpower planning.

Assist in performance review / mentor role.

Advise management on legislative compliance and best practice.

Assist management in business development and winning projects.

Training internal and external projects.

Liaise with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure compliance and report accordingly.

To manage relevant personnel to enable production and regular updating of the contract programme.

To manage relevant personnel with regard to modelling and CAD requirements.

Manage the Engineering Design functions on the project, including 3rd party design houses and integrated package equipment suppliers.

Facilitate all key documents, model and other layout, engineering reviews (CDM, Design Reviews, Design Workshops, constructability, commissionablity and maintainability etc.

Produce and ensure consistency of Engineering Design estimates.

To review and control the technical content of the model and drawings produced and to check and approve drawings.

To liaise closely with the Project Manager and to provide support and technical assistance as required.

Contribute to the preparation by others of estimates and programmes.

Monitor / control the activities / performance of sub-contractors.

Prepare and issue regular progress reports to Engineering Design and Project Management.

Maintain CDM / H&S files and other legislative records.

To check design consultant work and design calculations within individual capabilities or to identify and specify such SQEP resource required.

To produce engineering working practices and quality plans as required.

To manage and monitor and control engineering man-hour spend within or below allocated budget.

To raise purchase orders including the technical definition of work scope and/or technically review other purchase orders to liaise with suppliers and customers.

To assist in the compilation of case history documentation.

Liaise with suppliers, clients and regulators.

Assist in the compilation of case history documentation.
