Science Technician, Blackpool

A School Science Technician is required for our Secondary School in the Blackpool area. This is a permanent vacancy to start in September 2018.

You will be working with teachers as part of a professional team to support learning by providing technical assistance through the preparation and day to day maintenance of teaching areas and equipment for pupils.

The successful applicants for these type of roles should already have:

- A strong knowledge of science and a genuine interest in the subject.
- A qualification in any area of science.
- Previous experience of working in a school laboratory.
- Ability to communicate with pupils and adults to provide technical information and provide support for pupils learning.
- Ability to carry minor loads; lift and move resources, materials and equipment which may be awkward.
- A strong work ethic, the ability to work as part of a team of technicians, and a professional attitude

This is a great opportunity to work as part of a committed team, providing a practical service to the staff and pupils of the school. Responsibilities would include:

-Cleaning, storing and accounting for all equipment and stock including chemicals

- Undertaking of safety checks and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Ensuring chemical and biological waste is disposed of correctly
- Maintaining filing systems and correct paperwork for stock orders and keeping the department tidy
- Keeping relevant Health and Safety knowledge up-to-date eg COSHH requirements
- Secure and work with hazardous materials
- Assisting teaching staff in the running of practical sessions for pupils, and undertaking other duties as directed
-Ensuring all materials and equipment are ready for practical lessons and demonstrations, liaising with teaching staff for lesson planning
- Undertake record keeping
