My client, an independent regulatory body based in Bristol has a vacancy for a Senior Information Management and Governance Officer to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent role that would suit an experienced Information Management and Governance Officer ready for career progression.

The purpose of the role Senior Information Management and Governance Officer is to focus on ensuring the organisation has robust information management and complies with existing and future Data Protection legislation.

To be considered for this role you will have experience of working in information governance and/or with information access requests (both Data Protection and FOI) at a senior level; an excellent awareness of the connections between various relevant legislation (e.g. FOIA, Environmental Information Regulations 2005, EU General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018); experience of managing the challenges faced with unstructured data; an ability to demonstrate a broad-based view of issues, events and activities and a perception of their longer term impact or wider implications; ability to create new and imaginative approaches to work-related issues.

Key responsibilities:

* Ensuring that the organisation is compliant with existing and future legislation
* The implementation of internal policies, privacy framework, and guidance for data protection are formulated, overseen, and aligned with the supervisory authority's guidance and with all relevant legislative requirements in place
* All aspects of information management and governance are developed, balancing the use and security of information enabling legal compliance and operational transparency
* Policies and procedures are developed to ensure that systems are performing effectively. This includes data loss prevention software and unstructured data management software.

The role will support and provide leadership across the information governance and information management elements of the Governance Team. Specific responsibilities will include: senior support with handling information access requests (Data Protection and FOI); providing advice on data processing risks and how these align with the organisation's risk appetite and the business strategy; providing support to the DPO to ensure the organisation is an exemplar in data protection; ensuring the best use is made of information management tools and practices; and helping ensure all information within the organisation is appropriately and robustly governed.

Key skills/experience required:

* Experience of working in information management and governance at a senior level and / or suitably qualified
* Experience / understanding of Risk Management and Response preparation in the event of a data breach
* Experience in leading and supporting with Freedom of Information Act / information identification / subject access requests
* Ability to reach reliable judgements on the basis of complex and sometimes imperfect information
* Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate specialist knowledge clearly to non-specialists
* A comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations 2005 (EIR), Re-Use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015 (RPSI), General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018 and the Public Records Act.
* An ability to disseminate and embed best practice in information management and governance within the organisation
* Experience of effective management of data, data protection impact, data access requests and the rights of data subjects under the General Data Protection Regulation
* Experience of formulating, implementing and overseeing policy and guidance for record-keeping , adhering to The Lord Chancellor's Code of Practice on Records Management for both paper and electronic records
