job description

Would you like to join the Science department at a forward thinking, innovative school in the Burnley area? Do you have a proven track record in raising standards and contributing to the improvement of school life?

Our client school is a larger than average Secondary school in the Burnley area, who are looking to strengthen their Science department. They wish to recruit strong Physics, Chemistry and Biology teachers, who can drive through improvements quickly, while tracking progress and identifying those in danger of underachieving.

Recently, the school have improved on their grade received from their last Ofsted inspection, by adopting a systematic approach to improving teaching. This has been mainly due to the senior team tirelessly promoting best practice and leadership. The GCSE results have improved, and the school is keen for this trend to continue across all faculties. The school is particularly focussed on identifying areas for improvement at Key Stage 3, and making a difference immediately, with a view to pupils being back on track in time for Key Stage 4 and the beginning of their GCSE studies.

The successful candidate will need to:

*have a proven track record in Science teaching, as well as raising achievement and attainment
*display the ability to devise and implement high quality support programmes for those pupils not hitting desired targets
*be able to provide consistently clear improvement points for students, and make sure these are actioned
*ensure those with special educational needs receive work which is matched closely to their ability to allow them to make good progress

The school can offer the support of a close-knit faculty where teamwork is placed high on the agenda. The SLT have a good reputation for identifying areas for improvement in teaching ability and offering tailored training and continuing professional development to address these areas.
