Teaching Assistant
South Leeds

A Primary School in Leeds, with a reputation of supporting and building its staff, are actively looking for a Teaching Assistant to work with them on an ongoing basis to support a small number of pupils within a their Key Stage 1 classes. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capability and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns.

You will be expected to liaise with teachers, senior management, parents and carers, and the pupils to ensure plans are tailored to specific needs throughout learning and objectives are been achieved. The key responsibilities for the role are:



* Establish constructive relationships with parents and carers - exchanging information, facilitating support for their childs attendance, behaviour and learning
* Reward good behaviour and challenge or take action on poor behaviour
* Support teaching and other support staff in maintaining discipline & following up incidents
* Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of identified EAL or SEN pupils
* Provide support to SEN pupils learning in the most effective way both
* Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively, ensuring they remain engaged in activates
* To work closely with the teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all areas of the curriculum for identified EAL/SEN pupils
* In the short term unplanned absence of the teacher, to cover all pre prepared activities to provide continuity for pupils
* To maintain record and provide regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
* To help adapt and plan the development of resources necessary to lead learning activities, taking into account pupils interests, language and culture background
* Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using appropriate approach
* Take part in school initiatives to improve parent and carers participation in school and community activities

The post holder should bring the following skills and attributes to the role:



* Able to communicate effectively with persons at all levels
* Has proven experience in a similar role, particularly experienced with Autism and is aware of challenges
* Is dedicated in seeing results and progress within pupils
* Has a passion for helping children
* Can identify different learning techniques and adapt to these when necessary
* Is reliable and honest
* Can demonstrate a professional work ethic
* Relevant Qualification or studying towards would be an advantage
* Team Teach is not essential but would be desirable
