Department: Operations

Reporting to: Operations Director

Location: Nationwide as required by role. This role is likely to be circa 80% site based, visiting sites throughout UK and Ireland

Main Purpose of the Job:

To improve the performance, productivity, efficiency of all site activities from mobilisation to completion. Through the implementation of planned strategies working with the Business Units (BU) site management teams. You will lead the coordination of the operational site teams.


* Ensure current knowledge of safety, productivity and financial performance of all live BSL projects
* Provide support to +People Superintendent to ensure implementation of +People Culture
* Drive improved operational systems, processes and best practises to ensure safe and robust outcomes on our projects
* Contribute towards the achievement of company's strategic and operational objectives
* Identify and report on areas of inefficiency, (Safety, Quality and Productivity), on projects and in systems, and work with BU's to implement improvements for their teams to deliver
* Perform quality controls and monitor production KPI's
* Identify training gaps within workforce and implement improvements through the Training Programme
* Provide operational and technical support to Business Units at tender and construction phase
* Take short term overall Supervisory control of projects as necessary to drive essential improvement
* Support, co-ordinate. Investigate and report on identified company, R & D projects from an operational perspective.
* Identify innovation within industry, adopt and drive implementation through company as appropriate- Maintain company at forefront of Innovation
* Attend tender launch meetings, review meetings and Contract Handovers for all projects.
* Bug busting - Assist with turning round problem jobs and assume the Senior Managers role as approved by
* Operations Director on complex projects as required to achieve. (defined as any Job with a -ve SNM or one where the SNM has reduced by more than 6%)
* Identifying resource (plant & labour) requirements within the core business
* Work with Labour Manager to ensure correct balance of labour and skills on worksites
* Attend Client meetings as necessary and maintain good working relations with all parties

Key Tasks:

* Prevent BUGS from developing
* Ensure embedment of +People on our sites
* Monitor and report on operational productivity and implement improvement plans for poorly performing sites.
* Maintain Operational KPI reporting
* Identify and manage the training required within the operational business and monitor against KPI's
* Ensure Training and Development plans are in place for key operational trainee roles including FPS Apprentices.
* Reporting on production, R&D and resource issues at quarterly board meetings and Monthly Management Meetings
* Coordinate, support and provide mentoring and guidance to site based engineers and supervisors.
* Manage the production of technical guidance notes/ story boards
* Identify procedural improvements in operations department.
* Assist site teams with solving problems
* Interface with Plant department on technical issues and in development of R and D projects.
* Liaise with Business Units to ensure robustness of Site Management
* Develop Improvement Plans for Supervisors based on ¼ bonus feedback
