Randstad in partnership with a leading biotechnology company located in St. Louis, MO, is now hiring for a Biochemist with experience in protein expression. If you are the selected candidate for this role, you will work with our client in the development of technology that enables farmers to grow more crops by applying biotechnology, genomics and molecular breeding technology to herbicides and seeds.

Responsibilities:
As the successful candidate for this opportunity, you will work within our client???s small molecule discovery pipeline for to provide key contributions for development of novel pest and pathogen control products. You will be part of a cross-functional team conducting molecular and biochemical analyses as well as some bioassays with plants to identify and characterize novel active ingredients for use in pest and pathogen control. You should have highly effective computer, data management, communication and organizational skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  •  Preparation and handling of nucleic acids
  •  Cloning and molecular biology, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequence analysis, etc.
  •  Protein expression and biochemical characterization
  •  Preparing active ingredients for bioassays
  •  Assist in the set-up and scoring of whole plant bioassays
  •  General lab operations support


Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills:
Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, or related discipline
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with database applications and spreadsheet software
  • Proficiency in techniques commonly used by biochemists and molecular biologists
  • Proficiency in basic microbiological techniques
  • Comfortable working with live pests and pathogens of plants
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a collaborative/cross functional environment


Desired Skills/Experience:

  • MS in Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, or related discipline
  • Experience with small molecule and protein interactions
  • Experience in agricultural biotechnology
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
