A fantastic opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified mental health professional (Social Worker/Counsellor/Psychologist/Registered Nurse) working with a leading Government Department, based in Melbourne CBD.

Working within a team of Coordinators, Clinical and Non-Clinical staff who act as the initial, primary access point for the clinical risk assessment of/and response to urgent, high risk or escalated Veterans/ADF members and their families who may be seeking immediate help.

All communication takes place via phone and email, as this role is the single or primary point of contact and access to clinical support for those seeking help for perhaps the first time. As such, this fast-paced role would ideally suit an experienced Mental Health professional who can think on their feet, remain calm and be patient with those in need at all times.

The Role:

As Clinical Support Officer, you will be responsible for the assessment and response to clients referred to the team due to issues relating to mental health, psychosocial issues and suicide risk. This process involves speaking with clients, conducting risk assessments, identifying barriers, and discussing broader mental health supports and psychosocial needs, as well as services or entitlements available from this Government Department and other organisations (such as Open Arms).

Responsibilities include

  • Provide clinical guidance and support to case coordinators who are assisting clients identified as being at risk and/or having complex and multiple needs, individually and through leading group reflective practice sessions.
  • Be a clinical primary point of contact to manage clients and/or coordinate access to services for clients identified as being at risk and/or with complex multiple needs.
  • Assist clients to access the required information and support services for their psychological and physical health, and medical needs.
  • Development of risk management plans for, and strategies to, assist clients identified as being at risk and/or with complex multiple needs.
  • Escalation of high risk and high profile issues through EL1 team leader to senior leadership
  • Build strong relationships and streamline access to benefits and services for case coordinated clients identified as being at risk and/or with complex multiple needs
  • Liaise with the ADF, ex-service organisations, community groups, and service providers to facilitate service provision to case coordinated clients identified as being at risk and/or with complex multiple needs and encourage informal support networks.

About You:

  • Qualifications and/or relevant registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist, Registered Nurse (Mental Health),Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker (AASW).
  • Counsellors with extensive experience in Mental Heath, may be considered.
  • Working with Children check & Vulnerable peoples check
  • Extensive experience within the clinical case management space (2 + years)
  • Defence and Veterans Affairs knowledge (distinct advantage)
