SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. We focus on harm prevention and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces through information, advice and compliance activities. We are currently seeking Assistant State Inspectors within the Construction and Asbestos Services Directorate.

This is an opportunity to apply your industry experience and qualifications to work in partnership with NSW workplaces to assist them in creating and maintaining work health and safety standards. We have a strong proactive education and intervention role designed to build industry capability and support the prevention of harm, this includes delivering key programs to support the support of the Work Health and Safety Roadmap 2022 and the Building and Construction Sector Plan.

You will work with the construction industry, associations, unions, the community and government agencies in response to and prevention of workplace injury and illness incidents arising from construction work. You will assist in building the capability of internal and external stakeholders and customers.

You will utilise your industry knowledge, project management and stakeholder engagement skills to identify, plan and deliver operational strategies as they relate to safety in the construction industry. You will also conduct workplace visits and investigations into causes of construction workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a minimum of ten units of competency from the Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection), and/or equivalent relevant qualification or above in a related field, and/or 3 years + relevant industry experience.
  • Have strong communication skills to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders within the construction industry
  • Have extensive construction knowledge and experience to provide expert information and advice, education and compliance services that contribute to safety improvements in the construction industry and workplaces
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills to influence safety behaviour, undertake change management processes, or lead stakeholder engagements
  • Experience in project delivery

Location: Field based position. However, base office locations are Haymarket, Baulkham Hills, Gosford or Liverpool (negotiable with successful candidate)

Salary: Receive an attractive salary package along with packaged motor vehicle options. Salary range starting from $119,083 plus superannuation.
