job description

The Agency

  • Working within the Attorney General's portfolio in a CBD location (near Martin Place) there is a vacancy within their Enquiries team to start the first week in January.
  • The agency monitors statutory compliance, conducts investigations & audits, review of FOI decisions, provides advice and promotes responsible information handling within government and the private sector.

The Team

  • The small Enquiries team is located within their Dispute Resolution Branch; who are responsible for handling & resolving privacy complaints, and conducts reviews on agency decisions made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI Act).
  • The team handles all written and over the phone enquiries; acting as the public face of the independent statutory agency.

The Role

  • Providing advice by phone and in writing of the Privacy Act 1988 and the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and other related legislation; making appropriate referrals to other government and industry bodies where necessary.
  • Under general direction, draft correspondence in relation to enquiries, complaints and reviews.
  • Database management; maintaining descriptive & statistical records of enquiries for reporting purposes.
  • Provide administrative support to the wider office as required.

Criteria:

  • Ideal; having knowledge in Law, Legal Practices, Legislation, Public Sector or Privacy.
  • Strong communication skills; the ability to respond to phone enquiries in a professional and efficient manner.
  • An ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Privacy and Freedom of Information legislation – previous experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with complaints or dispute resolutions
  • An ability to respond appropriately to challenging questions and client behaviours.
  • Sounds administrative skills.
  • MUST be an Australian Citizen.
