job description

The role:

Is primarily responsible for all aspects of planning of engineering activities in regards to cost and schedule

Duties:

1. Support the Sales Department as design engineer during the tendering process, ensuring the design meets the requirements and technical risks are controlled and communicated. Completion of design calculations and confirmation/definition of SOW. Review of technical specifications and exceptions. Estimate of engineering budget

2. Manage engineering projects ensuring the design is delivered to the right quality in budget and on time. Managing engineering component on project/job. Track hours and schedule, provide regular updates/reports. Confirm design calculations and lead all design activities related to project. Check, Improve and Approve assembly and manufacturing drawings including corresponding BOMs. Meeting statutory requirements and application of Safety in Design. Meet quality standards and client specifications

3. Supplier, manufacturing and project management support

4. Identification and recommendation of new processes where needed for quality improvement, cost reduction and on-time delivery. Implementation of such solutions including and covering general engineering duties and MRP system improvements.

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Relevant Tertiary Qualification in engineering

2. Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience including design of heavy machinery, mining and processing plants and fabrication and assembly practices.

3. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

4. Strong organisational skills with knowledge of project management practices and procedures

5. Practical FEA experience and proficiency, preferably with Ansys

6. Practical CAD experience and proficiency, preferably with Autodesk Inventor

7. Good communication skills, good computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) as well as MRP systems

1. Compliance to statutory and design standards

2. Meet Project Technical Requirements and deliver error free

3. Project delivery to schedule on time

4. Project delivery within budget
