The Opportunity

Our client is a Local Council located in the Eastern suburbs who are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to support their Environmental team on a part-time four month contract (16 hours per week).


  • Contribute to the provision of a high standard of services which support and improve health in the community.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements, and, where applicable, Council policies relating to health, meet with compliance.
  • Ensure a responsible and professional high standard of advice and public relations on health matters to the public in person, by telephone and in written correspondence.
  • Provide advice, information and assistance to other departments to ensure that proper attention is given to matters of public health significance.


  • Developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate to all sections of the community.
  • Ability to empathise with members of the public and liaise with community members and conflict resolution.
  • Sound time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to provide clear advice and assistance on matters of a technical and specialised nature.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Sound computer skills.


  • Sound knowledge of Council and Department workplace procedures, programs and policy.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Health Legislation.


  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualifications acceptable to the Executive Director of Public Health.
  • Current "C" Class Drivers Licence.
  • Appointment as Authorised Person and Inspector (Noise) under the Environmental Protection Act or eligibility for such appointment.
  • Eligibility for membership of Environmental Health Australia.


  • Formal qualifications or training in HACCP and/or Auditing of Food Safety Plans.
  • Additional qualifications or formal studies in Health Sciences, Environmental Science, Pollution Control, Food Sciences and Technology, Management, Education or Sociology.
