As a Gardener in a Victorian council you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the council’s flora. It will be your mission to ensure garden beds in parks and reserves are well taken care of, including weeding, planting and mowing. The concerned temporary assignments give you the opportunity to broaden your plant-operating experience and work across different government local councils within Victoria.

Your typical duties will include:

  • Undertaking a broad range of horticultural maintenance to ensure the council’s open spaces are of high standard
  • Ensuring effective pest, weed and disease control
  • Assisting in the preparation and planning of revegetation works
  • Providing minor technical repairs to machinery where needed
  • Loading, unloading and moving materials and equipment
  • Maintaining an accurate record of work undertaken
  • Complying with all codes of practice and safe operating procedures
  • Undertaking other duties as directed

Requirements:

To be successful, you essentially need to possess:

  • A valid VIC drivers license
  • A relevant industry certification (Trade Certificate 3, Chemical User Certificate, Horticulture Certificate 3, Conservation Land Management 3 etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of gardening equipment in a safe and efficient manner

Your other desired skills:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in minor repairs of relevant equipment
  • Ability to interact with the public in a clear and courteous manner
