job description

Randstad is currently working with one of our favourite clients to find IT System Engineers to join a high performing team. As a System Engineer, you will be working on both Microsoft and Linux environments to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve incidents on live systems, in addition to deploying software to update and add to our portfolio of products

A typical day for an IT System Engineer:

We start with a daily stand-up across the whole Business Unit to discuss the scheduled (and unscheduled!) deployments for the day, in addition to any support issues outstanding. The support calls we receive vary in degree and therefore we analyse their severity according to our model, and determine what priority of work is needed to resolve them. Support issues can vary from one player not being able to play on a specific game, up to a whole casino going down across 4 locations. Deployments vary in scale likewise, depending in configuration complexity.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical expertise across the product portfolio, covering both software deployment and support
  • Troubleshooting complex support queries from operators, investigating SQL databases to identify software bugs
  • Supporting and maintaining SQL and Microsoft environments
  • Managing the delivery of new software to our systems whilst ensuring continuous availability of our products and services
  • Actively engaging and building relationships with operators, development teams and third-party providers
  • Resolving support issues, providing ongoing IT solutions in a fast-paced production environment
  • In-depth investigation and resolution of live incidents
  • Providing ongoing automation and monitoring solutions

Technical Skillset Required:

As an IT System Engineer, you must have:

  • Demonstrable experience in Windows Server applications
  • Experience in troubleshooting SQL based issues
  • Previous experience in a support role, using a ticketing system and providing technical support at a 2nd or 3rd tier level.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • A team player who enjoys working in a collaborative and cutting edge environment

Ideally you may also have:

  • Microsoft qualifications including both MCSA and MCSE (SQL server track)
  • Knowledge of virtualisation technologies and IT infrastructure (servers, networking and storage)
  • Experience troubleshooting and deploying on live systems

Ideally you will have knowledge and exposure to some of the following technologies:

  • SQL Server 2014/2016
  • Transact- SQL
  • SSIS
  • Windows Server
  • C# development
  • F5 Loadbalancer
